St Nicholas is shown from the shoulders up, his head turned slightly to his left. His brows are furrowed and the mouth is fixed in a subtle frown. The whole face is charged with intensity. The left hand emerges from the bottom edge in blessing, while the right holds a closed Gospel book. The Virgin and Christ sit at Nicholas’ left and right shoulders respectively. Four familial saints are shown on the borders of the panel, clockwise from the bottom-left: St Theodore, St Paisius, St Antipas, St Mary (?) of Bethany.
